Where houses are actually weak

What AS 4145 actually means
AS 4145 is the Australian standard for locksets, covering how a lock performs under force, wear and weather. A deadbolt fitted to that standard, into a frame that can carry it, is a genuine obstacle rather than a psychological one.
The lock is only half of it. A good deadbolt into a thin architrave with 15mm screws will still come out of the frame in one hit. Fitting properly means longer screws reaching the structural stud and a strike plate that spreads the load, and it is where most of the real benefit comes from.
Key control
Standard keys copy for a few dollars at any hardware counter, and nothing records that it happened. Restricted profiles use patented blanks that only the issuing locksmith holds, and cutting requires written authority from the person named on the system.
Most homes do not need that. Businesses, rentals and unit blocks often do, because it turns an unknown number of keys into a documented list.
